Memorial Day Parade

Coupeville’s town parade is the longest running in Wahsington with a mix of old tractors, vintage cars full of WWII and Pearl Harbor survivors, basset hounds, shetlon ponnies, cheerleaders, pep bands, protesters carrying anti-Bush signs, Marines, local Navy folk, and fly-overs by loud, gas guzzling cargo planes and bombers. It was our first Memeorial Day having lost someone close to us who was serving in Iraq, which made the holiday so much more profound. The parade was certainly a spirit-lifter with close to two gallons of candy gathered by Betty. She was so ecstatic when floats threw puppets and stuffed bunnies wearing sweaters her way.
